Happy July 4th!!

You know what today is all about? Fun, sun, and LOTS of food!

If you’re like many people, holiday weekends are times when we find ourselves grabbing for every item on the table… and often regretting it later on.

Chances are you will be able to find healthy choices wherever you are this Independence Day, so how do you ensure that you don’t make food choices you’ll be unhappy about?

Be sure to plan in advance. Before you head out, pack small snacks every 3-4 hours. If you’re going to a party, have some baby carrots and hummus beforehand, or an apple and peanut butter. Not only will it keep your energy levels high, it will keep you making smart choices all day long since you won’t be starving and scrounging for food.

When it’s dessert time and you want to dig into that apple pie, reach for fruit instead. The sweetness of ripe summer fruit will keep your sweet tooth in check, and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that your willpower is strong as ever!
