Healthy Chocolate Shake!

Craving chocolate? If so, you’re not alone—we have a sweet tooth for chocolate too!  Yes, even us– registered dietitians, personal trainers and proud veggies lovers– we admit it!  We love our chocolate and gotta get some of it too!  🙂 Chocolate brownies, chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate fudgesicles…yes, anything chocolate, we’re likely huge fans!  And of course, we love sharing our chocolate treats with you and our clients (like our 5 Minute Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies and our Chocolate Drizzled Granola Balls)  that taste indulgent but that also don’t sabotage your efforts to keep trim!  After all, chocolate seems to taste a whole lot sweeter when it feels guilt-free!

This week marks the end of Chocolate Week so in honor of it, we want to share some benefits of chocolate– yes we said benefits!

Of course remember that moderation is key; indulging in small portions is the key.  But remember, we’ll help you to eat and feel satisfied, so that sticking to small portions of delicious treats is much easier!

Dark chocolate offers the most benefits. Look for dark chocolate that has at least 70% cacao listed in the ingredients, this is the healthier stuff –thanks to its powerful antioxidants which can help to protect the heart.

And dark chocolate actually offers UV protection from the sun thanks to its flavonoid antioxidants.

Another fun fact? Eating chocolate can make you feel happier and less stressed! How great is that?!

Get your chocolate fix with this easy, healthy chocolate shake recipe!  By the way, while were on the topic, we keep our cocao powder around the house to add a cocoa kick to many recipes to help get the fix.  We suggest you do the same, you’ll find it a part of many of our recipes!
