For most of us, unless you’re lucky enough to live fairly far south, it’s still cold and snowy outside. (Yes, we DO envy you southerners with your warm winter sun!) With the holidays behind us, it’s sometimes hard to enjoy old man winter, especially with the short days. The cold weather can really take a toll on energy levels and mood. Need a boost for your mood, health and energy level? Try our tips!
1) Do everything you can to avoid getting sick. As a kid your mom probably told you to wash your hands frequently to get rid of the nasty winter germs and try to keep your face away from people coughing or sneezing. Although Tammy tells her daughters this now as well, remember that your workout routine and nutrition play a huge part in your immune system too! Eat nourishing, vitamin packed foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, yogurt, and lean proteins. Keep up with your exercise routine through the winter months; exercise moderately and regularly to keep your immune system strong.
2) Switch up your exercise routine to add some excitement. Most of us are stuck inside the gym for winter workouts. If you’re bored with using the same machine everyday try to mix it up a little. Try a new gym class, sign up for a session with a personal trainer or pick a new goal to work towards. Look up runs or marathons in your area and sign up for spring marathons, half marathons, 10K and 5K runs and use them as your motivation to train and keep working out. Some places also offer 2k fun runs that are geared towards kids and that can be a great way to get the whole family working out and working towards a family goal.
3) Stop avoiding the cold and get outside to play. Gather friends together and try a new winter sport such as skiing, outdoor ice skating, snowboarding or just go for a hike. If you’re looking for something more low key, bundle up and go for a walk
