It’s Friday and we know that by the end of the week energy levels can be dragging. Finish off the workweek strong and focused by staying hydrated. About 70% of your body is made up of water, so keeping your cells hydrated helps them function properly, which in turn keeps you energized.
We have to say that we tend to have a lot of energy. On days when we can't get our usual amount of water, we are exhausted with headaches. Try meeting the recommendations and you'll see what a difference it makes. (And read the tip below about fruits and veggies - they really do help too!)
Men should aim for about 3 liters (12 cups) of water a day and women should aim for about 2 liters (9 cups) of water a day. If you’re active, make sure you’re drinking a little bit more than that. Here are some ways we make sure to get enough water:
Carry around your own water bottle and takes sips frequently throughout the day (even if you’re not thirsty!). Carrying your own water bottle ensures you’ll be well hydrated wherever you are – on a long drive, in a meeting at work, out with friend, you name it.
Get up from your desk several times an hour and take a walk to the water cooler. An added bonus – walking around a bit will get blood flowing, which will also help keep your energy levels high.
Add a cup of tea to your afternoon and evening snack. Aim for a caffeine-free variety, such as Chamomile, after 3pm so you won’t be awake all night.
Snack on water-rich foods such as apples and pears and veggies like celery and bell peppers– drinking water isn’t the only way to hydrate!
Drink even when you’re not thirsty – once you’re thirsty, you’re already on your way to becoming dehydrated.
