Creamy Banana Avocado Smoothie

Ah, avocados and bananas! If you only knew how many times these items came to my rescue…I truly have no idea what I’d do without these two saving graces. In fact, my boyfriend, Darren and I have a standing joke surrounding avos (that’s what we call our bestie) and bananas. Every time I make Darren a masterpiece (aka a meal 😉 ) and feel it turns out a bit subpar, I disappointedly give him a heads up that what he’s about to taste didn’t live up to my normal magic (Ha! If only, I definitely have plenty of flops between the magic! 😉 ). He says, don’t sweat it Lys, just throw an avo and a banana in there! And so I do, and…a delicious meal is served! There’s something about this combination that’s so sweet and super creamy that makes any meal insanely addictive. And simply adding them to anything turns a mundane meal into a winner!

Pssst… remember our Avocado and Olive Pasta it contains this magical combo and was born out a flop!

Tropical Green Smoothie

June 17th is “National Eat All Your Veggies Day,” and since we’re all about getting more veggies all year round, this delicious smoothie will help get the job done, no matter what day it is!…

We know what you’re thinking—that we probably were the ones who invented such a day! But this day really exists—without our doing!  And although in our hearts and minds, every day is National Eat All Your Veggies Day 😉 , we’re thrilled that this day is officially recognized!

BTW, thank you so much for making our day—so many of you emailed us to tell us you love and would never guess you were actually getting your veggie servings in our Skinny Green Smoothie, our Avocado and Apple Green Smoothie, and our Kale Recharge Smoothie and we can’t wait for you to try this to feel the same way! 🙂

30923722 - healthy green juice smoothie surrounded by whole fruits, vegetables and chia seeds with fresh strawberry garnish and red swirl straw

And if you struggle to get your veggies in, this is the easiest, most delicious way to make that challenge obsolete– and you can enjoy it at breakfast to really start your day off right!  This morning boost is packed with nutrients that’ll help mop up damage in your body created by pollution, toxins and stress, while helping you to fight inflammation and disease.  With just 217 calories and 15 grams of satisfying protein, this smoothie is a complete score. (Oh yeah!)

Filled with fiber and antioxidants, this tropical green smoothie is a great energy booster to start off your day right.

The magic of the Tropical Green Smoothie:

Hello Veggies, hasta la vista toxins! Veggies contain phytonutrients to help prevent destructive particles from injuring cells.  And in this smoothie, we’ve got kale.

Kale, besides being packed with nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Vitamin B6, has glutathione, a protein in veggies that grabs onto toxins and drags them out of our body!

*Notice this smoothie uses fresh, not cooked kale. That’s because cooking or processing decreases the glutathione bioavailability.

Pineapple and strawberries contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, which help to neutralize toxins and prevent damage caused from the inflammation that results from stress, pollution and even from overdoing it on less-than-healthy toxin-creating foods and drinks.

Flaxseeds are a good source of omega-3 essential fatty acids. They are important for brain health and powerful anti-inflammatories that protect against heart disease.

This smoothie will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day!

Enjoy!

Makes 2 servings

Ingredients:

2 cups kale, packed

2 cups pineapple, cut into cubes

1 cup frozen strawberries

7 oz. plain Greek yogurt

1 tsp flaxseeds

Directions:

1. Cut kale into ribbons by removing the stems and cutting them into pieces that look like 1-inch strips. Pack the kale into the cups to ensure that you are getting the full serving.

2. Cut the frozen strawberries into halves (allow to slightly thaw if they are too frozen to cut).

3. Add yogurt to the blender and then add the kale, pineapple, strawberries, and flaxseeds and blend until smooth.

Detoxifying Green Tea Smoothie

Detoxifying Green Tea Smoothie

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

As you know, we’re a bit obsessed with greens—after all, we’ve witnessed personally (and for our clients)—what they can do for your health and for your appearance! So of course, we’re always encouraging people to get more greens… and to Go GREEN! And with this simple recipe, it’s easy!

We love throwing together random ingredients in our fridge and seeing what we can come up with. This time, we created this “detoxifying” green tea smoothie that helps flush toxins from your body and is just 121 calories to boot! It’s loaded with green veggies to give it that bright green color and fresh taste, and pineapple and orange give it a sweet, refreshing, citrus flavor. We also added an avocado- one of our favorites 😉 . Adding an avocado not only provides you with potent anti-inflammatory compounds to help prevent cell damage but also adds a rich and creamy texture.

Although your body is equipped to detox and cleanse itself on its own, naturally, certain health-promoting foods and drinks, assist it in its process. This lil’ number contains anti-inflammatory phytonutrients and ingredients that help the body in it’s natural detoxification process. Check out how this smoothie detoxifies below:

(Psst… looking for more recipes that help to fight damage and help to “detoxify”? Thanks for letting us know you love our other creations—you make our day when you let us know and you put the fire under us to want to create more and  more, thank you!) like our Kale Recharge Smoothie, our Sparkling Cucumber and Refresh Detoxer, and our Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Drink, just to name a few.  And now, this little number helps your body to neutralize toxins and to feel better and brighter!)

Here’s Why It Detoxifies:

This Slimming Smoothie acts like a “flusher” — rich in water and helps you to rinse out bloating sodium from your body “de-puffing” you and making you feel lighter. The potassium from the veggies will also fight bloat as it helps to restore normal hydration status.

The veggie and fruits’ vitamin C in this smoothie will make your skin glow by promoting collagen formation. Plus it will hydrate your skin (i.e., you’ll look nourished, rejuvenated and fresh).

Indulged in alcohol, been around cigarette smoke, or eaten a bit too much processed food? More reasons why this Detox Smoothie works:
o The cruciferous veggies like kale and chard help the liver to flush out harmful toxins.

  • Sulforaphane, a phytochemical (and others) in cruciferous veggies get the enzymes activated that detoxify before damage to cells is done.

o Hello Green tea and Veggies, See ya later toxins!  Green tea, veggies and fruits all contain powerful phytonutrients to stave off damage from invading particles.

o *Glutathione, a protein in veggies clings to toxins and drags them out of our body.

The Orange and Pineapple

  • Give you a shot of vitamin C and act as immune-boosters to help strengthen your body after any havoc it’s just been through.
  • Help to neutralize free radicals before they can do any further damage and prevent inflammation so that the body can stay calm.

Detoxifying Green Tea Smoothie

Pair this anti-inflammatory, slimming smoothie with 2 hard boiled eggs, an egg white omelet or a Greek yogurt for protein (or add a scoop of protein powder like Vega One Protein & Greens) for a light, nutrient-packed on-the-go breakfast or meal.  Enjoy it at lunch or dinner by adding a source of protein like grilled salmon on a bed of greens with tomatoes and bell peppers and steamed veggies.

Pine-ana Reboot Smoothie

This is a fabulous post-workout smoothie or a fantastic snack to help reboot you in the middle of a long afternoon. It’s hydrating and refreshing and a great source of potassium which helps to restore fluid balance and prevent muscle cramps while aiding in muscle contraction.  You also get a dose of vitamin C, as well as a carb and protein combo to help repair muscles and tissues and aid in recovery.  This combo also boosts your energy to kick your afternoon into high gear. The ginger adds a delicious kick and is known to help ease digestion.

Note: The level of sweetness people prefer varies a good deal. If you make this smoothie and want it slightly sweeter, add a few extra tablespoons of frozen pineapple or a teaspoon of honey or some stevia.  We also adore ginger so we add extra, the calories are negligible.

Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 6 large ice cubes
  • 6 ounces nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup frozen pineapple tidbits (Trader Joe’s has great ones)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated ginger*

*NOTE: We actually just add in about 1/2 inch chunk of ginger without grating it first, which makes this very easy.  However,  if you don’t know if you’re a fan of ginger, start with the recommended grated amount and then from there you can use less or more without grating or measuring in the future).
