¼ tsp. whole black peppercorns (or pinch ground black pepper)
pinch of ground nutmeg and cardamom
1½ whole cinnamon stick (or ½ tsp. ground cinnamon)
dash of salt (optional)*
2 drops stevia or to taste (preferably organic)**
¼ tsp. vanilla extract.
1 dropper of astragalus root
*We didn’t use salt and loved it bu some people prefer it.
**If you prefer not to use stevia and still would like a sweetener, try 1 tsp. maple syrup, (preferably organic, like Doc's maple syrup) or 1 teaspoon honey or any other maple syrup. See nutrition facts below.
Instructions
In a medium-sized pot, combine all of the ingredients except the astragalus root extract and heat over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer and whisk gently for 5 minutes to allow all the spices to release their flavor. (If using powder spices, 2-3 minutes is fine, but 5 minutes seems to make the flavor bolder!)
Remove pot from heat. If using whole peppercorns, strain them out.
Pour the mixture into a blender and add the astragalus root extract. Blend on high for 30 seconds until foamy and creamy texture. (If you want it to be less like a foamy latte, skip the blending and just whisk vigorously and then pour into your glass. You can also pour this over ice for an iced golden milk latte).
Pour into a glass, garnish with a sprinkle of turmeric powder and nutmeg, kick your feet up and relax!
