Green Grape & Matcha Detox Drink

  October 26, 2015  |    Blog>Recipes

We’re always surprised by our client’s relief when we tell them that we completely understand (and relate!) to feeling like we want to press the “reset” button after a weekend of eating away from our veggie-filled kitchens.  They tell us that they know we are human but just assume that since we have our degrees in nutrition and eat so healthfully that we must never struggle with less than stellar eating situations.  Ha! If, only!

The truth is that after a weekend of eating out at restaurants and at social events and even while trying to order and eat healthfully, we just don’t feel as good as we like, we know foods aren’t always prepared the way our body’s feel best and we definitely can’t wait to get back on track come Monday!  That’s why we’ve created some of our favorite detox drinks (and yours too! Thanks for letting us know you love ‘em—you make our day when you let us know when you like our creations!) like our Kale Recharge Smoothie, our Sparkling Cucumber and Refresh Detoxer, and our Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Drink, just to name a few.  And now, this little number helps your body to neutralize toxins and to feel better and lighter!

This matcha detox drink combines nutrients to help your liver in its detoxification process, antioxidants to help your body fend off the damage from toxins and free radicals that occur from everyday living while also providing some anti-bloat and possible metabolism boosting benefits.

Matcha green tea comes from the same tea leaf that green tea comes from—only with matcha, the tea leaf that is steamed, dried, then ground into the fresh green powder and is even more powerful than green tea because instead of just getting the benefits and the antioxidants that leach into the tea, when you drink matcha you drink the entire ground leaves and 100% of the nutrients in the leaf, so you get more potent antioxidants and benefits.  That means you consume more of the catechins that have been associated with everything from reducing cancer and blood pressure to protecting your brain against aging. Catechins appear to speed up liver activity and increase the production of detoxification enzymes.

Combine spinach, which aids the liver in it’s detoxification process with grapes, which are packed with antioxidants to help fend off damage from overindulgences that cause inflammation and wreak havoc on the body.

Spinach is an especially great food to have when you want to get back on track after overindulging—one reason is that it is part of the entire anti-bloat, de-puffing, immune boosting, toxin-defeating combo! Spinach is rich in water, hydrating you and helping you to “rinse” out bloating sodium from your body, “de-puffing” you and making you feel lighter. The potassium will also fight bloat as it helps to restore normal hydration status-and it’s fiber will help push waste and toxins out of your colon for a flatter stomach.

Green Grape & Matcha Detox Drink

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cups frozen white grapes
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1 1/2 cups strong brewed matcha green tea, cooled (as an alternative, can substitute green tea)**
  • ½ cup ice
  • (If desired 2 tsp. stevia for added sweetness)

**No matcha? No problem, you can use green tea powder or take several bags of green tea and steep in 1-1/2 cup of water to make a very strong green tea.  Let it cook and use that in the recipe.  Ideally, you’d use 10 tea bags 😉 but we understand that you probably won’t want to use all your tea!  You’ll still get many benefits that matcha offers since green tea is also so powerful.

Directions:

Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
