Skinny Strawberry Sunrise Smoothie

  February 24, 2014  |    Blog>Recipes

We just remembered about this recipe we used to give our clients all the time. It’s an oldie–but a goodie! 🙂  Nowadays, if you want this for breakfast, we definitely recommend adding the extra Greek yogurt suggested below to give this a bit more staying power.  Lately you have been loving our Healthy Chocolate Shake  and some of our other smoothies in our Easiest & Most Delicious Way to Get Your Greens in the Morning, but it’s time to bring back this little number into the mix!  After all, who doesn’t love a healthy, sweet and refreshing start to their morning (or afternoon snack for that matter?) that’s just over 160 calories? We sure do! 😉 This delicious smoothie packs protein, calcium and loads of antioxidants from strawberries, cocoa powder and spinach.  It also boasts vitamin C to keep skin firm and to promote strong teeth and bones. The spinach is so mild you won’t notice it but your body will appreciate the fiber and nutrients.

If you want to give this breakfast a little more staying power to last you until lunch, simply add several spoons of Greek yogurt or 2 teaspoons of peanut butter. (Add 1/2 cup nonfat Greek yogurt and this will clock in at just over 200 calories and 17 grams of protein–woohoo!)  Enjoy! 🙂

Note:  You can substitute the milk for unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and although you’ll cut the calories by 40 per cup, you’ll lose the protein which helps to keep you satisfied.

Note: Just like our Ginger-nana Pineapple Smoothie (see yesterday’s), to make this smoothie slightly sweeter, add an extra teaspoon of honey or some stevia.  Again, the honey isn’t accounted for in the nutrition information below.
