A Look at Applegate Well Carved Organic ™ Blended Meatballs

  November 16, 2020  |    Blog

As a registered dietitian nutritionists, we get samples of new food products all of the time. Many are tasty, but not always the healthiest and others that are really nutritious aren’t necessarily the most appealing. That’s why when we received samples of Applegate Well Carved Organic Blended Meatballs, a product line that delivers on both taste and good health, we were excited to share about it!

Applegate is already known for its natural and organic meat products that are from animals Applegate humanely raised without antibiotics and added hormones. However, its Well Carved line that we’re obsessing over pairs Applegate humanely raised meat with organic vegetables, legumes, and grains to create blended products that will satisfy those who love the taste and texture of meat but are also mindful of their meat intake. We tried the Asian Style and Mediterranean Style meatballs, and as dietitians, these check our boxes: better for you, more planet-friendly, delicious, and easy to prepare.

Most Americans do not eat the recommended number of daily vegetable servings of 2 ½ cups daily. That’s one reason why we’re always talking about the different ways that we help our clients to eat more of them so that they can reap their benefits. Blended meat and veggie products are a step in the right direction to help Americans hit that goal. Applegate was able to find the ideal blend of meat to veggies, legumes, and grains to create two flavorful meatballs that deliver a ¼ cup of vegetables per serving, while also staying true to that meat forward flavor. What’s more, the veggies make them super juicy too. That’s a win-win in our houses!

Another nutritional benefit to Well Carved products, is that they have fewer calories, total fat, and saturated fat compared to their conventional counterparts.

If you have concerns about ingredients or food sensitivities, we love that these are USDA Organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free. There’s nothing artificial and all the ingredients used could be found in your kitchen. Literally, you could make these in your own kitchen… Applegate is just giving you the option of convenience and reduced prep time. 🙂

Curious about the ingredients and nutritional breakdowns? Check out more information below on the two Applegate Well Carved™ Organic Meatball varieties we tried.  We hope you’re as excited as we are that they are both good for your health and your waistline!

How we prepared Well Carved products

They’re super easy to make, which is perfect for our lifestyle as we always seem to be time crunched! They come fully cooked and we just stored them in the freezer; you don’t have to worry about them going bad! We followed the package instructions and reheated them on the stove top.  We simply sprayed our pan lightly using olive oil in a spray bottle and re-heated them before eating. And voila! We had a delicious, healthy and satisfying meatball in minutes!
