Holiday Appetizer for Kids!

  December 19, 2011  |    Blog

Way before the holiday dinner and dessert even hit the table, the holiday appetizers are well underway. Appetizers seem like easy dishes to make and serve, but people actually have the hardest time with them and tend to consume more calories from the appetizers than they should get in the entire meal!

Trying to keep the appetizers light, yet healthy can prove to be a real challenge. Figuring out what to serve that complements the dinner and at the same time doesn’t cause you to go overboard on extra calories and fat is hard. Here is one of our favorite, delicious, and healthy holiday appetizer recipes that kids will love. Mmmm!!

Baked Tortilla Leaves

Ingredients:

  • 1 leaf shaped cookie cutter
  • 3 or 4 tortillas, use wheat, tomato, and spinach tortillas to get multicolored leaves
  • 3 tbs of olive oil

First, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Use the leaf shaped cookie cutter to cut out leaves from the colored tortillas; each tortilla should make about 3 leaves. Place leaves on a cookie sheet, brush them with olive oil, and bake for 3-5 minutes. Serve with salsa, hummus, or any other favorite dip.

The kids will love the fun shapes and won’t even realize that they are eating something healthy!
